THE EXECUTION OF JUSTICE ("Detective Mike Walsh" novels series) Review
Source: Product DescriptionMike Walsh has been a uniformed patrol officer with the Indianapolis Police Department for six and a half years. On a snowy, frigid Christmas, he and his partner, Officer Bradley Reccio are dispatched to a domestice disputer. As they arrive and get out of their patrol car, a deranged man pulls open the front door of his home and fires a ,45 caliber automatic handgun, striking Reccio twice, seriously wounding him.
As police and Fire-Rescue units respond, Walsh is faced with another dilema; the deranged man is holding his five year old daughter hostage. In the tense standoff, lasting twelve minutes, Walsh and the distraught man hold guns on each other as Reccio lies in the snow, bleeding and going into shock. Walsh finally talks the man into surrendering, and his partner is rushed to the hospital.
Two months later, Walsh is promoted to the elite Robbery & Homicide Divison and partnered with his old mentor, Detective Sergeant Jack Lovell. He is immediately thrust into chasing down a brutal serial killer of women, and an increasingly violent gang of armed robbery suspects. He likes his new job and is intent on becoming the best he can be. The job soon begins to put a strain on his marriage. Although his wife loves him, she worries about the dangers he faces and objects to the long hours he puts in.
Eight months into the job, tragedy strikes the detective team. In the aftermath, Walsh's wife leaves him, returning to her parents in Connecticut. Walsh is ordered to take some time off. He sees his life spiraling into a rapid decline, and turns to booze to ease his mounting depression, his partner's shooting and the failure of his marriage. His hope of a reconcilliation with his wife is destroyed when he learns from his mother-in-law that his wife has found someone else.
Fortunately for him, his siblings and his colleagues gather to offer him support. Their efforts pay off, he pulls out of his self-destructive mood and sobers up. He makes a decision to leave the police department and relocate to Florida and start a new life.
His sister, a realtor is charged with selling his home. He packs up and with his two German Shepherd Dogs, relocates to Miami, Florida.
This is the debut novel introducing the "Detective Micke Walsh" series of novels. The book is well-paced, exciting, with many twists and turns. It gives the reader an insight into the personal lives of cops, police work and the detectives attempts to balance the two.
