For Eva Review
Source: Amazon.com ReviewPainter André Thomkins drew the 28 images in this little book for his wife, Eva. He worked through the night of March 12, 1957, so that he could present the collection to her on the morning of her birthday, then, spent from his labors, promptly slept through the day. The surreal pen-and-ink line drawings of fantastic, birdlike creatures, amorphous human figures, cubist architecture, and cryptic notations seem to have streamed directly from the artist's consciousness and onto the page. They are at once fanciful and passionate, and they testify to the power of Thomkins's love for his wife. Printed on textured, creamy stock, with a short introduction titled "Love's Surprises," this diminutive volume is a sweet nothing for art lovers.
