“It is a process of diverting one’s scattered forces into one powerful channel.” ~ James Allen

Very rarely in life are we provided with the perfect situation for achievement of a goal. It is important to always maintain focus on your goal. The reason most people do not reach their goals is quite simply because they lose sight of them. They become distracted by the scenery on the route to their destination. They find themselves stopping off to visit here and there or even being derailed by others and so they completely lose focus of their goal. This is understandable. It is common. It is the average reaction. Do you want to be average?

How focused are you?

Think how unusual it would be to be driving along to your destination, to have your vehicle struck by another, to deal with the accident and to get back into your car and continue on to your destination. It is quite possible you might abandon the trip. You might be so emotionally upset by the accident that you might even forget entirely about where you were going. At least for the moment. And that is understandable. But in order to maintain your focus you must not abandon your journey. If necessary you might delay it by a day or two but then tomorrow you will start out afresh to get to your intended destination. What if you got into another accident? Would you abandon the trip this time? What if you delayed it yet again? And got into yet another accident? How many times would you start over? How many derailments would it take for you to abandon your trip?

This is the way it is with goals. Many things come along that attempt to derail us from reaching our goal. But if you never give up, if you keep your goal in mind. If you keep your focus strong. If you are resilient, and keep trying to reach your goal, you will succeed. Success is guaranteed once you never give up. By definition.

Losing your focus

Some derailments are purely accidental. Perhaps you fall sick. Or perhaps a new project at work demands all your time. Perhaps one of your loved ones falls ill. Perhaps there is some financial emergency. Some derailments are intentional. Perhaps someone specifically does not want you to succeed so they tempt you off your diet with cake, or deliberately give you more projects that demand most of your time and energy. Perhaps emotionally they are deliberately creating a stressful environment for you. Regardless of what the distraction is you must return your focus to your goal. You must be single-minded and resolute. Your goal must be the most important thing in your life. You must never waver from it. Regularly talk to yourself.

Learning to maintain your focus

“This is my goal. This is what I want to achieve more than anything else. I will not let this situation or this person or this thing distract me from my goal. I am focused and determined to succeed. I am putting in the work to reach my goal. I will not allow myself to be derailed by those who would like to see me fail. I will not allow anything to stop me from reaching my goal. I stand firm and I will keep working towards my goal. I am focused. If I get knocked down then I will get up, dust myself off and start again. Success is mines as long as I never give up.”

It is very important to develop this mindset and the only way to develop it is to keep talking to yourself in this fashion everyday. Constantly reinforce to yourself how important your goal is to you. Eventually your goal will be ingrained into your subconscious as an integral part of you and your subconscious will readily recognize every opportunity to propel you towards your goal.

“One reason so few of us achieve what we truly want is that we never direct our focus; we never concentrate our power. Most people dabble their way through life, never deciding to master anything in particular.” ~ Anthony Robbins.
